Indigenous-Led Conservation & Regeneration

OIOC is an indigenous-led organization rooted in ancestral ways of living well and harmonious relations with all beings. Our values are deeply rooted in the wisdom passed down through generations—here are our guiding paths in how we relate to, collaborate with, and advocate for Indigenous culture.

Indigenous Leadership and Ancestral Values

OIOC is proudly led by Indigenous peoples, who uphold the values of reciprocity, respect, and reverence for the Earth and all its inhabitants.

Our organization is committed to reclaiming and revitalizing ancestral knowledge, traditions, and governance systems that have sustained Indigenous communities for centuries.

Preservation of Ancestral Territories

OIOC recognizes the sacredness of ancestral territories and is dedicated to their preservation and protection. Despite colonization ushering the loss of precious natural resources in the Amazon, OIOC remains steadfast in safeguarding and restoring these vital ecosystems.

Synergy with Nature and Regeneration

OIOC embraces the interconnectedness of all life and acknowledges the importance of regenerating nature to restore balance and harmony. We believe nurturing and restoring the natural world regenerates our humanity, heals the wounds of colonization, and fosters resilience for future generations.

We foster respectful and equitable partnerships with Indigenous communities while promoting gender equality. We uphold Indigenous laws, principles, and cultural practices, including recognizing the Earth as our Mother and adhering to natural laws and cycles—like planting seasons and lunar calendar.

Respect for Indigenous Laws and Cultural Practices

OIOC recognizes and respects the sovereignty of Indigenous peoples and their inherent right to self-determination. We acknowledge and honor Indigenous laws, customs, traditions, and governance structures as foundational to our partnerships and collaborative efforts.

Gender Equality

OIOC is dedicated to promoting gender equality and ensuring all genders can fully and equally participate in decision-making processes and activities.

We commit to addressing gender-based discrimination, stereotypes, and inequalities within our organization and partner communities.

Collaborative Decision-Making

OIOC engages in meaningful and inclusive dialogue with Indigenous partners to co-create solutions and make decisions that respect and reflect their priorities, values, and aspirations. We prioritize building trusting and reciprocal relationships based on mutual respect, understanding, and transparency.

Empowerment and Capacity Building

OIOC empowers Indigenous communities, including women, youth, and marginalized groups, by supporting capacity-building initiatives, leadership development, and resource access. We recognize the importance of ensuring Indigenous voices are heard and valued in our work.

Advocacy and Policy Influence

OIOC advocates for policies and practices that uphold Indigenous peoples' rights, well-being, and territories. We actively engage in policy dialogue and advocacy efforts to promote Indigenous-led solutions and amplify Indigenous voices at local, national, and international levels.

Compliance

All OIOC staff, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders must adhere to this policy and demonstrate respect for Indigenous laws, cultural protocols, and gender equality principles. We regularly review and adapt our approaches based on feedback from Indigenous partners, stakeholders, and community members.
